Jacqui Cacan

Senior Designer

Jacqui Cacan joined L’Observatoire International in 2023. Cacan’s training in architecture and fine arts, combined with a passion for science and math, has fostered an approach to research multiple disciplines to inform her design practice. Cacan’s experience in multiple project types and scales, from design through completion, has led her to develop a passion for rigorous study in site conditions, human analytics, material sciences, and regulations to inform a clear, creative solution. Cacan’s pedagogy is rooted in detailed, thoughtful documentation, collaboration with all trades, and mockups to verify solutions.

Cacan’s favorite element, in any project, is collaborating on construction sites. Tuning and focusing layers of lighting to pronounce the design goals and lend artistry, balance, and contrast are the ultimate satisfaction for disciplined work.

Cacan has led many projects that have won awards, including the University of Chicago Rubenstein Forum, MOXI Museum of Exploration and Innovation, the historic Santa Barbara Courthouse Mural Room, and the Lobero Theater. Cacan was recognized in 2021 as one of “40 Under 40” lighting designers worldwide.
